The PhD Colloquium is a semester-long, biweekly speaker-series that gives advanced doctoral students an opportunity to explore broad issues related to completing the dissertation, entering the academic and alt-ac job market, and other topics that don’t necessarily fit in a typical graduate curriculum.

Each meeting of the Colloquium is two hours long. The first hour features a presentation by an invited speaker - usually a faculty member, administrator, alumnus or community member who has expertise and experience germane to the topic. The second hour is devoted to open group dialogue, during which colloquium participants are encouraged to ask unfiltered questions and to share their own concerns.

All doctoral students who have completed their coursework are eligible to participate in the colloquium. Each semester, invitations to participate are sent directly to students enrolled in courses numbered “9998” and “9999;” those who would like to participate complete a registration form. Colloquium participants are asked to commit to attending each of the listed sessions.
