Conversation Partners (Language Tutors) meet one-on-one with students to help them practice speaking and improve their language skills. They also assist students with reading comprehension, review course materials or activities, build vocabulary, and develop grammar skills. Through informal conversation practice in the target language, Conversation Partners enhance fluency, listening, and vocabulary, while providing informal language teaching.
All Conversation Partners primarily work with English Language Learners, helping them develop their fluency and proficiency in oral English, as well as assisting them in understanding intercultural differences in communication.
Conversation Partners who also have proficiency in American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish can also provide support for students who are learning those languages.
Graduate Conversation Partners also help enhance reading comprehension for graduate-level coursework across disciplines and support the development of various research and administrative projects related to language learning at our center.
Graduate Conversation Partner/Tutor positions are Teaching Assistantships; they carry stipends, tuition remission, and benefits in accordance with the current TUGSA contract. We offer full-time (20 hours per week), half-time (10 hours per week), and quarter-time (5 hours per week) positions. The work hours are flexible and can be scheduled around other obligations.
