We work closely with faculty, advisors, and administrators to ensure that SSC services are effective, and that they reach the students who can benefit from them.
Faculty, advisors and administrators have an open invitation to visit the SSC and meet a member of our administrative team to learn more about what we do. Please contact us to set up a time to visit.
Faculty
If you would like to encourage your students to use SSC services, here are a couple of effective ways to do that:
- Include a brief statement in your syllabus that explains the services that are available. If you wish, you can copy (or adapt) one of our sample syllabus statements.
- Invite a representative from the SSC to come to your class and give a brief presentation about our services. The presentation can be focused on the services that are most relevant to your course.
- Talk with your students about the value of academic support, and describe how/when they could use academic support to succeed in your course.
Please note, however, that requiring students to visit the SSC is usually not an effective strategy for getting them to use academic support. For this reason, faculty are not permitted to require an entire class of students to use SSC services. In rare cases, you might find it helpful to require an individual student to use one of our services. If you do that, tell your student to request a “verification of visit,” and you will receive an email from us indicating that your student followed through.
Advisors and Administrators:
If you are working with students who would benefit from academic support, please share information about the SSC with them. In most cases, this will be enough to encourage students to visit. However, some students may require more intensive or more coordinated support, and in those cases, we are eager to work with you. Please contact us to discuss the situation.
If you are planning an event, or a group advising session, and you would like your students to know about SSC services, a member of our staff can come to make a brief presentation about our services.
If you have questions or concerns about SSC services, please contact us.
