Creative writing tables are informal, supportive gathering spaces for students to engage in creative writing at the Writing Center.

All students interested in writing creatively are welcome. Undergraduate and graduate students, from absolute beginners to experienced creative writers, may join us weekly or drop in as desired to spark new ideas for stories, comics, memoirs, song lyrics, scenes, and poems or simply to free write. Students are not required to be enrolled in creative writing courses to attend.

Spring 2024 Location & Times

All creative writing tables meet at the Student Success Center in Charles Library 340. In Spring 2024, creative writing tables meet twice weekly, beginning February 8: on Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Register for a seat by looking for "Creative Writing Table" among the list of tutors in the Writing Center's appointment schedule every Thursday and Friday.

What to Expect at Creative Writing Tables

At each creative writing table, two writing tutors will introduce a creative writing skill or topic, offer some creative writing prompts, and invite participants to engage with these imaginative writing exercises. After a few minutes of writing, participants are invited to share their creative drafts in an informal, supportive atmosphere.
